When Ryan and I first got married, we lived in Bloomington Indiana where Ryan attended Indiana University and I worked. When we first moved there, I took the first job I could get and about a year later moved onto a new job with Sunrise Greeting Cards (now a part of Hallmark). Sunrise was on a 'campus' of about three buildings. I worked in the building towards the back that had offices attached to the printing and warehouse part of the business. I often had to park way out past the loading dock and then walk to the front to enter the 'office' part of the building.
I had not been at my new job long and was still waiting for my new desktop to be 'delivered' to my cubical. It was ordered but delayed. First it wasn't there, then it had to go to someone else because they had a greater need so they had to order another one, then it was there but damaged or lost....every day it was some new excuse. I started to think it was an evil plot. Two weeks later, I was still waiting for the new desktop to arrive. I would check with the loading dock on a pretty regular basis and it was a little frustrating.
On this particular day it was hot. It was a scorching hot summer day and I was driving the kind of car that has air conditioning only when the window is down and you drive over 30mph. I lived close enough that I often went home for lunch. I was hearing a white sleeveless silk like top and a skirt my sister made me. The skirt was lightweight material and had a drawstring waist; very comfy and cool which was good for the drive to and from work at lunch time in the sweltering heat.
I pulled into the parking lot and got a parking spot just past the loading dock. As I got out of the car, I was a little sticky from the heat and the drive and pulled at my skirt a bit. It was towards the end of the standard lunch hour so the guys who worked in the loading dock area were out playing basketball (for those not familiar with Hoosiers, we have hoops all over the place, including the load dock of Sunrise Greetings - at least back in the day). I was just about parallel with the pick up game when I walked clear out of my skirt. Apparently when I got out of the car, I accidentally somehow tugged on the knot holding the drawstring skirt up. It had slowly loosened and let out until...whoosh....it was around my ankles and I was stepping out of it wearing only my sleeveless shirt and thong panties.
I quickly stopped, took a step back, and hauled my skirt back up into place and held it there and looked straight ahead as I continue to the office door. I dared not look at the guys playing hoops. I was horrified. To their credit - nothing was said. I think we were all a bit in shock.
But on the plus side, my new desktop arrived shortly after I sat down at my desk. Coincidence? I think not. And for the record - it was too hot for a slip. Also - I don't own any. Not then and not now. How scandlous is that?!
